WTV to MPEG: How to Convert .WTV File to MPEG1/MPEG2/MPEG4 on Windows or on Mac

With technology advances, recording TV shows is no longer a difficult thing. By recording TV shows, it’s convenient to enjoy the missed TV shows at your leisure time. Windows Media Center TV pack is the most commonly used program for recording TV shows. Starting from Windows Vista, TV shows data (audio and video) are wrapped in a container with the file extension WTV. Video is encoded using the MPEG-2 standard and audio using MPEG-1 Layer II or Dolby Digital AC-3 (ATSC A/52).

.WTV files can only play with a few media players like Microsoft Windows Media Center. Usually we will need to convert WTV to MPEG (MPEG1, MPEG2 or MPEG4) for play with other media players, burn on DVD or blu-ray discs, import to working flows for edit, etc.

Before TechiSky writes this article, there is solution to convert WTV to MPEG but it requires you to first convert WTV to DVR-MS. The solution in this article does not require WTV to DVR-MS conversion, and you can convert WTV files to MPEG1/MPEG2/MPEG 4 or whatever video formats directly with fast speed.
