Yosemite (Mac OS X 10.10), El Capitan, and the new macOS 10.12 Sierra in 2016, introduced lots of new features, with many of which focus on the theme of continuity, increasing its integration with other Apple services and platforms such as Siri, iOS and iCloud. This article will not focus on any of the new features but to focus on the common task that Mac users are so familiar with, that is, to Burn QuickTime Movies, MP3 Music, digital Photos to DVD with iDVD in Sierra/El Capitan/Yosemite.

Can iDVD work with Sierra/El Capitan/Yosemite? As we all know Apple discontinued iDVD which doesn’t come with every Mac since Lion, and of course you will be unable to find iDVD pre-installed in Sierra/El Capitan/Yosemite. Apple even no longer supports iDVD and in iMovie 10, all references to iDVD to burning DVDs are removed, including the “Share to iDVD” option in latest iMovie.

XV, with the extension of .xv, is short form for X Video Extension. XV is a video output mechanism for the X Window System mainly used to resize video content in the video controller hardware in order to enlarge a given video or to watch it in full screen mode. The X video extension can have the video controller perform color space conversions, and change the contrast, brightness, and hue of a displayed video stream.

Xunlei (迅雷), a famous downloader manager and video player in China uses XV format container to store movie files for fast play video online as well as fast download to local to play offline. Movie files or TV Series downloaded are usually named like 舌尖上的中国2.脚步.xv. Such files are authorized videos from thunder (www.xunlei.com) and normally you can not copy to another computer, can not convert or play by another common video players. If the system language you use is non Chinese, you will fail to play it even by Xunlei player.

When trying to play some WAV files in Logic Pro, Garageband, Camtasia Studio, iPod, iPad, iPhone, Android devices like Samsung Galaxy, the files either cannot be imported/opened, or play with no audio. Such problems usually occurs when you dealing with 32 bit WAV files.

Some WAV files have 32-bit precision. There are three types of 32-bit variables: float, integerical, and long. The more bits that are used, the greater the precision, and the loser the noise floor, but the more disk space and memory is used as well.

Can iTunes Play FLAC?

Have problems of add and import FLAC to iTunes? You may ask that can iTunes play FLAC? I have lots of FLAC files and want to get them to iTunes, so that I can transfer FLAC to play on my iPhone, iPod and iPad and use iTunes match to backup to iCloud. It’s really frustrated that iTunes can’t read and open FLAC files.

FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec), is a codec for lossless compression of digital audio. Digital audio compressed by FLAC’s algorithm can typically be reduced to 50–60% of its original size[4] and decompressed to an identical copy of the original audio data. Though playback support for FLAC by portable audio devices and dedicated audio systems is limited compared to lossy formats such as MP3, FLAC is supported by more hardware devices than competing lossless compressed formats such as WavPack.

Unfortunately, FLAC format is not a supported format by Apple’s software and devices, like iTunes, QuickTime, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Apple TV.
